Why Style Matters?!

Hello again, it's been a very long time and I hope you're all doing well. I want to get into to "why style matters today"? There are many reasons as to why style matters, but I want to focus on the main points and help anyone who is struggling to find a style that they feel is suitable to them. I have a different approach to style than most because I have a very cutthroat approach to style. It's not to be mean it's to motivate people. This rolled out of bed look has been going on for far too long and quite frankly it needs to stop.

Your Style is a General Reflection of Who You Are

Now I've heard, "my style doesn't define me", "I wear what I like", "why does it matter”? Let me be blunt regarding those questions and sayings, all that just equals to I'm lazy and I don't care. Well guess what your style is reflecting that you're lazy and you don't have to say you don't care because everyone can see you don't care. It's bad when we have reached a place in society when expecting someone to get dressed like their life has meaning is seen as just so evil or superficial. You want your style to be a true reflection of who you are, it will be hard for anyone even friends if your outward appearance is so unapproachable. Just look at the people around you who say they don't care about style, and they tend to not care about life and the people closest to them. In addition, why would you want to “wear what you like” if what you like it making you look awful? Does that make sense? No, it doesn’t dress the style you want but have some cohesion to your clothing.

Appearances Do Count

Before someone can get to know you, they need to look at you first and if the outside is so off putting then no one is obligated to get to know you. Also, when you go into an interview and go out into the working world, you're not only representing yourself you're representing the business. You need to dress appropriately especially if where you're working is selling a service or does business with other businesses you need to look the part. Outside of work life is still happening. Dress like your life means something, hold your head up high and take on the day with purpose.

You'll Feel Better

Can anyone honestly say, they feel better about themselves when they look, they just rolled out of bed? NO! Stop lying to yourself if you think you can or say, " I don't care". As a stylist I know that's not true but for whatever reason you have been lying to yourself for so long. There is no shame in admitting you want to look nice and feel good about yourself. When you look better, you'll feel better and other people will sense that about you. You'll have a sparkle in your eyes and an image that says you value yourself and want to take care of yourself. Don't you want to look back at your life and say, "Life wasn't always easy but I always managed to look great no matter what I was going through"? Life is too short to not care about the way you look.

Reinvent Yourself

You can't control most things in life no matter what you think you can't. However, you can control the way look to a certain extent. Change what you can control like your appearance; to an appearance that says who you are before anyone has a chance to get to know you. Look like the warm, generous, feminine woman you are and embrace it. There will be an increase in your confidence, a change of personality, and in your mood.

You Will Command the Respect You Worked Hard to Achieve

This is a huge reason especially if you're in a position of authority. I've seen so many occasions when the person who is supposed to be in charge is not taken seriously because anyone can sense their low confidence and self-esteem, it doesn't matter if no one at work is telling you to your face that you look terrible trust me they're all thinking it. We are now living in a time where everyone must walk on eggshells to not hurt anyone’s feelings but believe me people notice and they still talk. Despite your boss promoting your boss in their back of their mind is still hesitant on giving an even better position because they know you will not be representing them the way you should be representing them. Many people today who are at a position of authority tend to look like the people who work below them, and they won't respect you. Your look is not commanding respect or authority it mostly says, "I'm here at least I'm dressed, I hate my job but hey its money". If you want people to take you seriously you need to show you take yourself seriously first. Also, if you're looking to get promoted dress for the job you want not the job you have. Even if the job you have doesn't pay a lot you can still go to places that you can afford. I'm not a fan of fast fashion but it has it's uses especially if you're young and just starting out your life.
