Style Icons: Who Is Your Favorite Style Icon?

Updated: Aug 21, 2023

Have you ever wondered what style suits you more or which style you prefer overall? Think of your favorite style icon. It could be someone famous or someone you know personally that you feel has a unique and chic style that makes you feel inspired to change your look.

Think of your favorite style icon whether it's a celebrity or someone you know personally and take some inspiration and add your your own details if you'd like. Many places sell items very similar to the fashion icons at a very affordable price and even good quality. If you love a more feminine, classic, and sophisticated look I would recommend taking some inspiration from the past. The women were more sophisticated and chicer, and they seem to just embody femininity something that has been lost for quite some time. In this article I'll be focusing on the more popular style icons and how you can achieve their look and be inspired by their style.

Audrey Hepburn

One of my personal favorites is Audrey Hepburn she was so graceful and so chic and, in many ways, had the simplest style. However, in my opinion what made Audrey Hepburn so different from the rest is that she held her head up high. She had class, confidence, femininity, and grace that seemed so natural and second nature to her. Even her off screen casual outfits were so prim and proper which were, khakis, polo shirt, a scarf and cardigan and she made it look so simple but so chic. She worked with the great designer Hubert Givenchy which helped her become the fashion icon we all know and admire. Her clothes were well tailored to fit her, and her beauty and class shined through her wardrobe. She was truly her own woman and in a class of her own.

One of her most infamous outfits consisted of the well-known LBD (little black dress) which you can find anywhere for a reasonable price and good quality. Paired with a pair of cat eye sunglasses, a beautiful big sun hat, and a classic pair of heels. The beauty of this ensemble is that you can dress it up or down and add your own accessories and still embody class and allure.

Princess Grace Kelly

Grace Kelly a talented actress that became Princess of Monaco was one of the classiest and most elegant women to ever grace the silver screen. Her style was a bit different from Audrey Hepburn's style. While Ms. Hepburn had a chicer and trendier but simple look Grace Kelly had a more elegant and glamorous but also a very simple look. I add simple because while her look was glamorous it wasn't overly done it was very "less is more." Added with her poise and mild manner presence on the screen she was in a class of her own as well.

To obtain a similar style to Princess Grace Kelly try a 1950's style a line dress with a petty coat underneath for added volume. Pair it with a pair of stud’s earrings, black heels and red lipstick and you'll turn heads. Many of these style dresses can be found on Amazon, Unique Vintage, Pinup Girl Clothing, Stop Staring and Modcloth. Try the look for a day see if you like it and if it suits you.

Marylin Monroe

A true icon and when anyone refer to the Golden Age of Hollywood the immediate thought is Marylin Monroe. The curvaceous beauty had a form fitting style to show off her body. Marylin had a sultry and sexy look once again without it being overly done. A lot of her sexier outfits would be considered modest by today's standards because everything now is showing off everything. She showed off her body with modest fitting clothing. She knew how to be sexy without exposing everything because modest is sexy.

A wiggle dress, red lip stick (with a touch of petroleum jelly) a pair of pumps with sunglasses complete the Marylin Monroe look. While wearing a wiggle dress wear it with confidence and maintain grace. Of course, you can always add any accessories you wish to make this look your own.

Zooey Deschanel

Now with a modern touch there's Zoey Deschanel that took classic retro pieces and made it her own. She added a bit of quirkiness to her style and has maintained that look for as long as she's been around. From her 1960's hairstyle to her a line skirts and cardigans she really has become a fashion icon and has a style that stands out from the rest of today's actresses. Her style is modest, feminine, retro, quirky all in one and is seen as a breath of fresh air. She proves you don't have to show off all your goods to be considered a beauty even in today's overly sexualized world.

To dress like Zoey Deschanel, wear an aline 1950's dress, with a cardigan, add a skinny belt, and wear flats instead of heels. Add any accessories you'd like to top the look off.

When picking out your style you can either go with the classics and draw inspiration from them and add your own touch to them. You can also have your own style and inspire others to put effort an into their appearance. One of the most important things to keep in mind when pick an outfit and go out into the world is wear it with confidence and dignity. Believe me people can tell the difference. Stay feminine and stylish.
