We are now currently living in a world where everything is so broad when it comes to fashion, and anyone can wear anything and any color with the illusion that they look good. They think they look good because what they're wearing is "trendy" not realizing trends don't work, don't last, and often are atrocious. Trends also don't account for body type and the person's overall coloring.
Which leads me to this post about size versus fit. Believe it or not there is a difference between size and fit when it comes to clothing. This may be difficult for people to read and conclude just because something is in your size that doesn't mean you should wear that specific clothing item. Even if the clothing item is currently all the rage. If the item is in your size and there is still something wrong, it's probably because that garment isn't meant for you. Don't take it personal there are multiple body shapes, and every body shape can wear certain items, but they should also steer clear from certain items as well.
In this article I'll break down size and fit because there is a difference between clothes that fit well and clothes in your size that will fit okay at best on you. This will also save you time and money when you go shopping. I cannot stress enough that knowing what looks good on you based on fit and color will save you time and money in the long run. When you know the difference between size and fit you will know what to buy despite what the trends are at any moment in time.

Now let's get into it. Just because it's in your size that doesn't mean you should wear it. You're reading that right, just because you like something or it's "trendy" that doesn't mean it will look good on you. You want to wear what you love but you also want to wear what looks good on you. I've seen so many people that wear what they "like”, but they only wear certain things because it's either "in" or because they think they're "comfortable". Neither are a good reason to wear certain clothes. You need to know what your body shape is and once you find out it will be easier to buy clothes and it won't matter what the trend is.
Have you ever experienced clothes that you've bought or tried on and even if it was in your size something was still off? The problem may not be you the problem is your trying on something that wasn't meant for your body and that is perfectly normal. Not every clothing item will fit you because there are different body shapes, and we must take that into account when we are shopping. One of the reasons that people were considered so glamorous and beautiful forty plus years ago is because they didn't wear what looked okay on them, they wore clothes they knew did something for their body. They wore the best. The best doesn't have to be the most expensive or extravagant it just means it looks the best on you because it suits you. You're wearing something that fits you over something that is just in your size, and you still feel uncomfortable.
The clothes in your size aren't going to do anything for you if the fit isn't right. For instance, skinny jeans or skinny trousers aren't meant for every body shape whether they are trendy or not. Well first off, skinny jeans are meant for skinny girls because you don't want to add or emphasize unnecessary bulk. Now, that doesn't mean all skinny girls should wear skinny jeans if they have a certain body shape. Skinny jeans fit best on the rectangle shape and the hourglass shape. They do not look flattering on someone who is pear-shaped (triangle shape), or the opposite of the triangle is the inverted triangle shape. Keep in mind body shapes have nothing to do with breast size or butt size it has to do with bone structure.
If you are pear-shaped your bottom half will naturally be a little wider than other body shapes. If you add skinny jeans, you will emphasize your lower half creating an unbalance and bottom-heavy effect. An effect that will make self-conscious, but you keep wearing it because it's a style that at this point is now a classic piece.
There is an upside to this and that is those aren't the only pants out there. The best pants for a pear-shaped woman are wide-leg trousers, straight-leg, flare, boot cut pants. These pants will elongate the leg, round out the butt, and remove the bottom-heavy effect by eliminating the unnecessary bulk.
If you are an inverted triangle the reason skinny jeans or trousers won't suit you is because inverted triangles carry their weight on their upper body and thinner legs. When you wear skinny jeans or trousers you will emphasize the upper part of the body and you'll end up looking like you have spaghetti legs. This is where it's not the size of the clothing that matters the most, it's the fit of clothing that matters. The best pants for inverted triangles are the same trousers that are best for pear-shaped bodies.
Another example would be the latest trend of these oversized and what look like parachute pants. These pants do absolutely nothing for any body shape. Your back side looks like it ten miles long and it looks so wide in the most unflattering way. This is why your personal style matters more than trends. See my article on the subject.
When you have your own style, the trends won't matter. One of the reasons is because you have recognized the difference between clothes that fit you over clothes that just come in your size. Fashion is a beautiful thing, and it can also be hard now because we're no longer focused on what looks the best on people but what sells the most. That is one of the reasons many people shy away from fashion because everything is changing but once you know what looks good on you and what works it will make all the difference.
While it may seem hard to have a good sense of style it isn’t. Once you know which colors look best on you, what body shape you are, which clothes look best on you, and choose quality over quantity; it’s a lot easier than you think. Once you have everything down shopping will be easier and obtaining an amazing style will come easier as well.

Remember always keep fit over size in mind. The fit of clothing will flatter your body and enhance your overall appearance. It shouldn't matter what the trend is always choose fit because the way clothes fit will always be in style. When you choose your clothes based on the fit of them it will take ordinary pieces and will look extraordinary on you.
