Fashion Rules You MUST Live By!!!!!!!!

Updated: Sep 8, 2023

It's no big secret that there are plenty of fashion rules you should live by, however, some can be mended others not so much. In this article I'm going to focus on the rules you need to live by, after all they are there for your own good.

I want this blog to be not just about fashion and style, but how does being a Christian conservative woman tie in together with fashion and style. You don't have to have the most expensive clothes, know every single trend out there, there are some trends that should have never been thought of, but put some effort. After all, when you look good you feel good.

Dress Appropriate for Your Age

Which leads me to my first rule to live by and that is to dress your age. We are living in an age of selfishness and it's all about me, I don't care if people don't like it, I'll do whatever I want, no matter how ridicules I look. There are women who look good for their age and instead of embracing their maturity they think they can look better than a woman twenty years younger. Ladies, dress for your age, just because you think you look good for your age that doesn't mean you should dress like a woman in her twenties. It's not very becoming for a lady to dress inappropriately as she gets older. This is true especially if you call yourself a Christian. Let's say for argument’s sake you're not a Christian, ask yourself, are you married, do you have kids, do you have grandchildren, do you have self-respect? Ask yourself these questions before you put on an outfit that you know you shouldn't wear anymore. With age comes maturity not immaturity or only focusing on yourself. As women we have fallen so far from grace that we are no longer valued and looked at the same way we once were. The same way as our mothers, grandmothers, and great grandmothers were. The worst part is most women did this to themselves. The modern woman needs to do better starting off by dressing for her age. The same can be said for the reverse. If you're in your twenties or thirties you don't have to dress like you're twenty years older than you are to achieve a sophisticated classy look. Modesty and sticking to classic pieces such as pencil skirts, button down blouses, and sweaters are key to a classic and sophisticated look without it aging you.

Don't Look Sloppy/Balance Is Key

I know I know many people say, "My style doesn't define me," while that may be true, but what is also true is that it does describe you. A lot of people don't want to admit that you can tell a person's personality by the way they dress. Why else would you dress a certain way and have a particular style? For example, I personally love the oversized look, oversized sweaters, tops, blazers, and even coats. I even go a size up to achieve this look, because there are days, I want to be comfortable, but I also like to look put together and fresh. With that said, I want to make it known balance is key. When you wear an oversized top make sure the bottom is not oversized, it should be fitted to your body. Oversized on top of oversized looks bad, you will look bigger than you are, you'll look sloppy, and you'll look like you've given up on life. Also, tuck in your blouses, now this may just be my opinion, but the half tucked half not tucked blouse doesn't look right. It really looks sloppy and doesn't do much for many body shapes.

Know Your Body and Know the Fit

As I mentioned before oversized isn't bad if there is a balance. However, when it comes to dresses nothing to lose and nothing too tight. If it's too tight, you'll looked like a stuffed sausage no matter what size you are unless you're a size zero (that's different). If you want to hide certain areas don't emphasize them by wearing clothes that are too tight. If you want to create the illusion of a smaller waist depending on your body type than something like a wrap dress will help. Wrap dresses typically fit all body shapes and sizes. This is also true if you have more of a box shape, and you want to create the illusion of an hourglass figure then knowing how to dress for your body type is important. You want to wear clothes that create the illusion of an hourglass figure not clothes that emphasize a box shape.

Don't Buy What You Don't Love

I've mentioned this in previous articles, but it goes without saying, if you don't love it don't buy it, you're just wasting your time and money. Make sure the clothes you buy are clothes that you love and can already picture multiple outfits just looking at them. You shouldn't buy something because it's trendy, just because it's trendy that doesn't mean it will suit you or do anything for your shape.

Make Sure the Colors Go Well with The Undertone, Value, and Intensity of Your Skin

Most people (and I used to be one of them) believe if the price and the fit are right then the garment must be right, right? Wrong! Make sure the colors you wear are colors that look right on you. If you need to hold the garment up to your face, then do it to see what the color does for you. Holding the item up to your face in a store with their bright lights and big mirrors is actually the perfect place to see what the color does for you and if it looks good or bad. If the color brightens up your face and brings out your eyes, then that is the color for you. However, if the color washes you out and doesn't brighten up your face then you know it's a no go. If in your closet you have colors that wash out your face but you love the piece and receive many compliments then keep it. Instead focus on the colors around your face that will compliment you compliment, such as scarves, blouses, and blazers. Also, make sure to wear the proper colors when it comes to make up.

Quality Over Quantity Especially for Shoes and Accessories

Yes!!!!! Shoes and accessories make the outfit!!! I cannot emphasize that enough you don't want to ruin a perfectly good outfit with the wrong shoes and accessories especially if they look cheap. The only time anyone gets a pass is when you're going to switch your shoes because the commute is too long or the weather outside is terrible and you're going to switch to shoes that will make the outfit standout. With that said, always choose quality accessories that complete the outfit. Accessories such as scarves and jewelry that will make the outfit look more expensive than it actually is.

Makeup, Manicures, and Hair are Vital

I'm not saying to cake your face up because I don't believe in that either. However, mascara, eyeliner, blush, concealer, and lipstick go a long way. Makeup is so supposed to enhance your features it is not meant to be a mask. One, that's false advertisement, and two, the more you put on over time the worse your skin gets and the worse you look without it on. When it comes to manicures you don't have to have a gel manicure or have the latest designs and spend so much money getting your nails done, just have them done. If you're nails are chipping, make sure to fix them. I can't tell you how many times I've seen beautiful outfits and either the nails aren't done, or the polish is all chipped. Let's not be lazy ladies, fix your nails. Now there are fast drying topcoats and sprays for a quick dry so there is no excuse to have chipped nails. You also need to make sure your hair is done and taken care of to complete the look. Again, you don't have to go over the top if you don't think it's necessary, but you can be minimal, chic, fresh, and feminine it is possible.
